Brownsville native Don Breeden grew up hunting and fishing is deep South Texas, so it’s not hard to understand the theme of his collection: “South Texas.” Don embraces and understands the essence of South Texas whether it be birds, animals, landscapes or historic buildings. Don received his formal art training at the University of Houston and graduated with a fine arts degree, with a major in commercial art. After working for several advertising agencies and design firms in the Houston area as an illustrator he moved back to the Valley where he now resides. In addition to being part owner of Breeden/McCumber Advertising & Design, he also owns and operates the Breeden Gallery where you will find the walls filled with his work. Don started out almost exclusively in pen and ink; later developing the technique of applying a water color wash over the pen work. Now, he works are primarily created in water color. The Breeden Gallery presently has over 400 limited editions of Don’s work in both full color and black and white, hand colored in water color upon request. And the subject matter; still images of South Texas, still dear to the heart of this native boy.
